Journalist, television and radio host and screenwriter Dany Laferrière (Canada/Haiti) worked as a journalist in his native Haiti during the notorious Duvalier regime, and immigrated to Montreal in 1978. The author of 12 novels, he has won several awards, including the Prix Carbet des lycéens, Prix RFO du Livre and Governor General’s Literary Award. Translated from the French by David Homel, Laferrière’s prize winning novel and Scotiabank Giller Prize nominated The Return is about a young man who flees Haiti for Montreal only to return to his home country 33 years later after his father’s death.
