Woodstock is bracing itself for a festival.

Not that Woodstock, the village in upstate New York, and not that festival, the one with the rock stars and mud and brown acid.

But the buzz is just as strong, the star-power a sure draw, and the demand for tickets overwhelming, says Susan Start, deputy chief librarian at the Woodstock Public Library in Oxford County, Ont.

“We had to guarantee we’d be able to fill the library with between 50 and 80 people, but demand for tickets outstripped the library’s capacity even before we knew who was coming — more than 200 have been sold so far — and we had to move the event to a larger venue, the Presbyterian Church next door.”

What’s got folks in Woodstock in a frenzy of anticipation has nothing to do with pop music, folk-art crafters or displays of autumn’s harvest.
