Alexander MacLeod was born in Inverness, Cape Breton and raised in Windsor, Ontario. He holds degrees from the University of Windsor, the University of Notre Dame and McGill, and currently teaches at Saint Mary’s University. MacLeod presents a reading from his celebrated first collection of stories, Light Lifting, which offers a suite of darkly urban and unflinching elegies that explore the depths of the psyche. It was a finalist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, and won the Atlantic Book Award.

André Alexis’s internationally acclaimed debut novel, Childhood, was the winner of both the Trillium Book Award and the Chapters/Books in Canada First Novel Award, and was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. Alexis is also the author of short stories, a play and a novel for young adults, Ingrid and the Wolf, which was a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award for Children’s Literature. He presents, Fifteen Dogs, a contemporary take on the apologue which offers an utterly compelling and affecting look at the beauty and perils of human consciousness. Fifteen Dogs is a finalist for the 2015 Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize.

Christian Bök is a poet, conceptual artist and professor of English at the University of Calgary. He is the author of Crystallography, a pataphysical encyclopedia nominated for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, and of Eunoia, a bestselling work of experimental literature awarded the Griffin Prize for Poetic Excellence. He has also earned many accolades for his virtuoso performances of sound poetry, particularly the Ursonate by Kurt Schwitters. Bök presents The Xenotext, a scientific and literary study that combines the principles of DNA mutation and poetry.

Claire Cameron‘s novel, The Bear, tells the story of two young siblings who are left to fend for themselves in the wilderness of Northern Ontario when a black bear attacks their campsite, killing both of their parents. It is a number 1 bestseller in Canada, was long listed for the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction and will be translated into 5 languages and the film rights are optioned. Deanna Young’s writing has appeared in journals across Canada and in 2013 she received the grand prize in the PRISM international Poetry Contest. She lives in Ottawa where she co-directs the Tree Reading Series. Young presents her third collection of poetry, House Dreams, which was a finalist for the 2015 Trillium Book Award for Poetry, the Ottawa Book Award and the Archibald Lampman Award. House Dreams is a haunting sample of the life we all live underground, and a view beneath the foundations of the various eras and places that make up one woman’s life story.

Dionne Brand is a poet and novelist. Her latest novel is Love Enough. Her book of poetry, Ossuaries, won the Griffin Poetry Prize, and her literary honours include the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Trillium Book Award, the Toronto Book Award and the 2006 Harbourfront Festival Prize for her contribution to the world of books and writing. She was Toronto’s third Poet Laureate from 2009 – 2012.
